I went to the new Eastland in 2016 Everything looked different when I was a kid I used to go there on the bus & eat cheeseburgers My friend Didier & I watching all the cars go by I didn’t recognise the new library at all Retro-futuristic architecture, big glass walls But the same faces were there among the aisles A little older now, a little further down the line I used to work there when I was a teenager Stacking shelves, watching girls read & Listening to my tape player I wrote a story once about it being blown up By a terrorist sometime after September, 2001 & now I’m lost in Eastland’s car park once again Driving underground with the ghosts of my old friends Rode the escalator to the bottom of the line Trying to figure out what became of all our lives Now I could tell you about the train stations on the line This one’s bound for reconstruction at a quarter after 9 They got CCTV & a drive-through mall, But the clock tower’s still standing, keeping time for us all Now I don’t see too many friends from Ringwood anymore We drifted during high school, that’s just the way it goes But I still think about them, whether dead or alive Especially when I’m walking under Eastland’s neon lights & now I’m lost in Eastland’s car park once again Driving underground with the ghosts of my old friends Rode the escalator to the bottom of the earth Trying to figure out what the hell it’s all worth When you’re lost inside of Eastland With the car park blues again

Magic Potion 04:21
I been sailing on a ship in the Indian ocean Take another sip from my magic potion I been sailing on a ship in the Indian Ocean Be careful how you trip when you’re on a magic potion When you go up to the bar room be careful what you say Because I saw a man killed there just the other day He had bread & butter, & money to spend But they took all his corn & they threw it to the wind I been sailing on a ship in the Indian ocean Take another sip from my magic potion I been sailing on a ship in the Indian Ocean Be careful how you trip when you’re on a magic potion Now maybe on a Sunday when I’m in my prime Or maybe on a Monday, when I’m out of my mind Or maybe Tuesday evening, that’s when I’m in town Just call up my number, I’ll be around When you find you’re at the bottom, after reaching the top & all the good stuff’s gone bad, & all the bad don’t stop Come & meet me in the morning, where the big bells ring We’ll just sit together & let the birds all sing I been sailing on a ship in the Indian ocean Take another sip from my magic potion I been sailing on a ship in the Indian Ocean Be careful how you trip when you’re on a magic potion

Nobody Else 03:56
O as I was going down the road Carrying a heavy load Something you once said to me ‘O so lonely are the free’ Now there’s a river you can’t cross & a little girl you’ve lost & a song that you can’t sing You’re a bird without a wing & you sing... I don’t need nobody else I guess I only need myself But I’m a liar & a thief We all sow just what we reap I’m a liar & a thief, lord lord I’m a liar & a thief O as I was going down that road Met Mr. Frog & Mrs. Toad & every time that frog did sing The toad would cut a pigeon wing Now I have saved up all my meat & I bloodied up my feet For I’ve walked a crooked mile Won’t you stay with me a while? But I don’t need nobody else I don’t even need myself I can see the light of day Coming through that window shade I can see the light of day, lord lord I can see the light of day I can see the light in me Watch me dance around this tree See me tumble from the sky I’m so happy I could die

I fell into a beautiful haze I ain’t slept in my bed in days I don’t know if I’m over her I’m just trying to find the words I want to tell you how it really feels To find yourself in someone else’s dream & I been walking all around you mind I’ll come & see you in the summer time ‘Cause I don’t know where the rainbows end But I know you are my friend The rains they fall, The four winds speak & I ain’t slept in my bed in weeks Now when I catch you in my head You’ve been telling stories to the dead I see a devil by the sea & I know what has been promised me It’s been eight weeks since I seen your face & every day feels like a fall from grace I want to feel you by my side & I’m holding out for the summertime ‘Cause I don’t know where the rainbows end But I know you are my friend The rains they fall, The four winds speak & I ain’t slept in my bed in weeks

Walking down along Brunswick St You’re the kind of girl I’d like to meet Walking & I’m staring at the sky You’re the kind of girl that makes me cry I said you’re the kind of girl that makes me cry Now I’m staring & I’m wondering Where you’ve been before I ain’t never met you But please don’t do me wrong I’m trying not to bring up all my insecurities But that’s so hard when I’m down here on my knees Walking down along Sydney Road Listen to the lonesome whistle blow Walking & I’m staring at the sky Thinking ‘bout that girl who passed me by Now I’m staring & I’m wondering How I let her go She won’t have to ask me About that anymore Stumbling & reeling down along the tracks Feeling like I’ve got some kind of Freight train on my back Walking down along the Merri Creek You’re the kind of girl I’d like to meet Seen you from the corner of my eye You’re the kind of girl that makes me cry I said you’re the kind of girl that makes me cry Now I’m staring & I’m wondering Have I met you before? You look sort of familiar Have you been by my front door? Maybe you live with somebody I know Maybe you could be the one that I’ve been looking for

Honey Baby 03:36
Walking through the gumtrees & the whispering pines O honey baby, you’ve been on my mind When you wake up at the break of day Every bone aching for the feel of clay O honey baby, you’ve been on my mind O honey baby, you’ve been on my mind Walking through the gumtrees like a lonely ghost O honey baby, I’m your chosen host When you wake up in the middle of the night The satellites reflecting light O honey baby, I’m your chosen host O honey baby, I’m your chosen host Walking through the wilderness all on my own O honey baby, please pick up your phone When you wake up in the afternoon & sing your song to the harvest moon O honey baby, please pick up your phone O honey baby, please pick up your phone O honey baby, please pick up your phone

Red river of blood has flowed Into the shining sea I come a cropper on the falling wind Walking home again Little girl what have I done? You know you broke my heart Red river flows through the valley of bones Into the sheltering sea I see a devil in the water Calling out to me Little girl what have I done? You know you broke my heart I see you rise again Like the Whippoorwill Falling through the seasons Just to see you again Outside the winds are blowing through my skull Inside the fire’s glowing Won’t you come & warm me again? Red river of blood has flowed Into the treacherous sea The dead are all standing in my doorway & Crowding up my dreams Little girl won’t you give me a song When I see you again? I see you rise again Like the Whippoorwill Falling through the seasons Just to see you again

Just because I’m leaving it don’t mean we’re through Just because I’m crying it don’t mean I’m blue Baby please believe that I ain’t over you Just because I’m leaving it don’t mean we’re through Sweetheart I can’t speak the truth today It’s all over & we’re better off that way We both know there’s nothing left to say So why do you have to call me an arsehole anyway? Just because I’m leaving it don’t mean we’re through Just because I’m crying it don’t mean I’m blue Baby please believe that I ain’t over you Just because I’m leaving it don’t mean we’re through Sweetheart I’m going to miss you when you’re gone Laying on your bed watching TV all night long I’ll miss your touch & the way you made me smile But maybe you can take some comfort In these words for a while Just because I’m leaving it don’t mean we’re through Just because I’m crying it don’t mean I’m blue Baby please believe that I ain’t over you Just because I’m leaving it don’t mean we’re through Just because I’m leaving it don’t mean I’m gone You can still come over, I’ll play you all my songs Baby please believe that I ain’t over you Just because I’m leaving it don’t mean we’re through

This is the last song that I’m going to write for you This is the first time that I know just what to do ‘Cause I don’t want no more apples from your apple tree & I don’t want no more mediocre poetry Since you’re gone it’s internet dating I know it’s wrong, but I don’t pay for it & that old song keeps coming on to the radio It sounds so wrong, honey since you’re gone This is the last song that I’m going to sing for you & I’ll keep singing it, until I believe it’s true I’ll be singing I don’t want no more apples from your apple tree & I don’t want no more mediocre poetry Since you’re gone it’s internet dating I know it’s wrong, but I don’t pay for it & that old song keeps coming on to the radio It sounds so wrong, honey since you’re gone It’s your birthday tomorrow & I’ve been saving up all my pay I packed my bags, I put them in my truck I’m leaving & I won’t be back ‘til May This is the last song that I’m going to sing for me This is the last time that I’m going to make believe That I don’t want no more apples from your apple tree That I don’t want no more mediocre poetry Since you’re gone it’s internet dating I know it’s wrong, pretty soon I’ll pay for it & that old song keeps coming on to my radio It sounds so wrong, honey since you’re gone It keeps coming on, honey since you’re gone Don’t you know it’s all gone wrong Honey, since you’re gone

Walking through the cities, walking through the plains Baby went & left me on a big freight train Walking down the highway, bottle in my hand I’m a weary traveller in a weary land Fifty bottles of bourbon, sixty more of pills I’ve got lots of reasons for why I’m feeling ill Seventy bottles of ether, eighty more of lead Ninety-nine more reasons for why I should be dead When you hear that shotgun blast You’ll know the good whiskey never lasts Walking home in the pouring rain I’ll come & see you soon in your crystal room When I’ve travelled down & back again Cardboard tabs of acid, pink amphetamines I’ve been feeling hazy since I turned sixteen Give me apple cider & twenty-three white mice My soul is like a maze, my heart feels like a vice When you hear that shotgun blast You’ll know the good whiskey never lasts Walking home in the pouring rain I’ll come & see you soon in your crystal room When I’ve travelled down & back again Down by the water where the boats come in I remembered when you were my friend & I thought I saw you drinking in the park Down by the water, sleeping in the dark A hundred bottles of vodka, a million more of beer My liver it is failing, the end is getting near I can count to ten but my fingers start to twitch Give me one more drink man, help me scratch this itch

Honey you can’t spoil a good thing No matter how hard you try Honey baby you’re my good thing You’re the apple of my eye Honey you can’t spoil a good thing I wouldn’t tell a lie Honey baby you’re my good thing Please don’t pass me by Well babe I must be dreaming I’ve never felt like this before All the love I’ve known has gone bad Or just walked out the door & it’s true I should be sleeping Sleeping in my bed But I’ve got this restless feeling Talking to you in my head Honey you can’t spoil a good thing No matter how hard you try Honey baby you’re my good thing You’re the apple of my eye Honey you can’t spoil a good thing I wouldn’t tell a lie Honey baby you’re my good thing Please don’t pass me by I’m going to see you in the morning When the sun begins to shine We’ll go walking in the country Pick the fruit from the vine & when the day turns into evening & the water tastes like wine I’ll just listen to you breathing Underneath the lonesome pines
